We were given the honour to produce the creative package for Dr. Amanda Foreman’s acclaimed four-part documentary series originally created for BBC2. The series documents the crucial role of women in society over the course of 10,000 years and was the first ever documentary to present the history of women from the dawn of civilisation to the modern day, highlighting extremes of freedom and oppression, inclusion and exclusion.
LANGUAGE AND CULTURE
Art and the written word have both been priceless instruments in communicating, documenting and preserving moments of great cultural and historical significance and we felt these basic ingredients would work well to capture the cultivated tone of the series.
BRUSH & INK
It was great to step away from the computer for a while and to use the tools of calligraphy, brush and ink. It’s a technique that is as synonymous with art, as it is with writing so it felt fitting to use this as the starting point for what we created.
The Ascent of Woman was critically acclaimed and very popular with viewers, with The Telegraph calling it “Powerful, inspiring and important”. Our comprehensive graphics package created important cohesion and gave the programme a premium visual look that matched its groundbreaking content.
